  A ryokan that connects Karuizawa's past to the present

  Tsuruya Ryokan began as an inn on Nakasendo in the early Edo period. During the Taisho period, many literary figures such as Ryunosuke Akutagawa, Saisei Muro, and Tatsuo Hori stayed here and wrote in the warm atmosphere. The rooms, which have been around for a long time, have a nostalgic atmosphere. Surrounded by furniture and furnishings from the early Showa era, it has a relaxing atmosphere away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Although it is a small inn, there are three buildings connected by a corridor: a main building, an annex, and a back building. The large public bath is made of active stones that warm both body and mind. A mineral hot spring using natural water from Karuizawa. Dinner is a Japanese course with a little creativity added to traditional Japanese cuisine. Breakfast is a buffet made with plenty of local ingredients. Please spend your time feeling the good old Karuizawa.

Unfortunately, only the annex building has an elevator. The main building has 20 steps. (Go up 10 steps, landing, 10 more steps, handrail on the left) The back building has 5 stairs. (No handrail)
